President Figueres was invited to inaugurate the summit convened by the American Council on Renewable Energy”, to address the changing state of renewable energy finance in Latin America and the Caribbean (REF-LAC). Convened by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the 2nd edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative took place in the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, to promote the advancement of Marine Protected Areas (MPA’s). President Figueres was invited by HSH Prince Albert II to moderate the opening session, in which political leaders representing countries around the Mediterrean Sea shared their national plans with respect of MPA’s. Existing MPA’s have proven to be cost effective in revitalizing the ocean’s biodiversity.
The National Geographic Society premiered the documentary entitled “Secrets of the Mediterranean: Cousteau’s lost world”, which will be released through their global television channels.

José María Figueres was invited to participate in the prestigious DLD Summit, which took place in Munich, Germany. DLD gathers technology leaders from around the world that come to present and discuss cutting edge progress being made within the technology sector. Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, delivered an extraordinary presentation during the closing session.
